Dear friends, like every year, this time also, Team Blue Pen celebrated Christmas with Flyover/Slum kids, all over Delhi, in style. As temperature zoomed down, Christmas spirits soared high. Santaclaus visited most of centers and distributed sweets and gifts, while singing Jingle bells, among flyover kids. Christmas Carols were sung.Several activities such as decorating Christmas Trees and Stockings, making Christmas Cards and Hand-crafted bells were organized for flyover kids. Smile and happiness prevalent on face on these kids was simply unparallel. As already discussed, for last few weeks, Blue Pen volunteers have been busy distributing body warmers and sweaters among flyover kids, at all centers. This Sunday, Christmas was celebrated at all centers with great zeal and energy.

Shivam,Volunteer (Coordinator-Noida-Faridabad line) describes, “As Chrismtas was coming, so we brought some gifts for them along with their favourite Santa Claus. We started with noida and this time, new volunteer Mr. Kamal joined us. We asked kids few questions related to christmas, like why we celebrate it and what is the story behind it. Most of the students answered correctly but then Ritika and Deepak further added some points and explained them briefly. During the discussion suddenly Santa came infront of them singing Jingle Bells and they were so happy on seeing their Santa and the clapping continued till each of them came and hugged Santa. Then Blue Pen Team reached Okhla, where we continued with our normal teaching sessions and we saw more number of students this time. A student named Vishal, 14 years old, learnt tables till 24. He is having a good sense of humor and is very intelligent. At the end we had a quiz compeition there.Their was a Dance Compeition also at Faridabad, kids were dressed so well and they performed amazingly. Even their parents came to boost their self confidence. There was happiness all around as all kids enjoyed wholeheartedly. We promised them to announce Quiz results next sunday and we will be ready for their new year gifts too.”

Sourav Sharma, Volunteer (Coordinator-Munirka-Nizamuddin line) discusses, “At our centers, we celebrated Christmas with great fervour and enthusiasm. The entire blue pen vibrated with the echoes of Christmas carols. A Cultural programme was put up by slum students. The programme began with welcome speech followed by a Christmas carol. The students gave a benevolent touch to the entire celebration by sharing their joy with under-privileged children of neighboring areas. These children wore a festive look with bells, streamers and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Several activities such as decorating Christmas Trees and Stockings, making Christmas Cards and Hand-crafted bells were organized for the students. The children were told about the birth of Lord Jesus and the legend of Santa Claus. The spirit of giving and sharing was inculcated among these bundly of joys, as they exchanged exquisitely packed gifts with each other and played games.”

Mr Sourav further adds, “Children also performed amazing dances adding to the festive atmosphere. Santas of blue pen who were dressed in red and white clothes, carried bags full of goodies and distributed candies and gifts. Children also spoke about the true meaning of Christmas and ornaments that are hung on a Christmas tree like, the shiny star, the silver bell, the red and white candy, the wreath, the candle and the Santa.Christmas was special for the students of blue pen. They celebrated Christmas in their own way enjoying a special Christmas gifts. The boundless joy of celebrating the festival was amply visible on the faces of the children especially when Santa moved around distributing sweets to them.
