Blue Pen Team teaches Mathematics, English, Social Science, and plays games at various flyovers of NCR Delhi

Dear friends, during last session, students turn out was significantly lower, as lot many kids had gone to their villages due to summer vacations. While IIT IIT flyover team focussed at teaching maths and drawings, Noida-Faridabad team focussed at Mathematics, especially face/place value and LCM. Munirka team continued with Mathematics and social science.

One noticeable thing i shouldnt fail to share is that my IIT batchmate Mr Amit Kumar, IFS recently posted as Deputy Chief of Indian Embassy at USA, continues to take classes of these kids, alongwith his brilliant son, every Sunday without fail. His commitment to cause of flyover kids is simply praise worthy . These kids will miss him badly once he leaves India, to join his new posting.

Kavita Chaudhary, Volunteer (Coordinator-IIT- Safdarjung Area) shares, “We started amazing day from IIT flyover, where we taught basic maths and alphabets to kids as most of them were new. They drew wonderful drawings and colured them, at the end, we did activities with them in order to make learning more interesting.

Further we moved to our next center Safdarjung where Amit sir taught maths to kids, and Jawahar sir told them about their surrounding things in a very interesting way. After lunch we moved to our last center Sangam vihar where kids are preparing for their up coming test, also we conducted few activities.”

Shivam,Volunteer(Coordinator-Noida-Okhla-Faridabad) remembers, “At Noida centre, we taught face-value and place-value to students of class 4th. We also taught difference between face value and place value and how to identify them. We taught rounding off the numbers to the students of class 6th and identification of the shapes. With younger ones, we did counting and writing alphabets and Hindi varnmala.”

He goes on,”At Okhla centre, Tarun learned to write alphabets from A to E very well as he started learning from that day only and he was going good. With the students of class 2nd & 3rd we did multiplication and division of numbers. We taught LCM to Simpy and Nifsa. Major problem we faced during LCM was that they didnt know whether larger number is divisible by 2 or not. So we decided to teach divisibility of 2,3,4,5 first and then we moved to LCM. Simpy was learning LCM for the first time still she managed to learn very well. And Nifsa learnt to deal with more complex LCM. ”

Shivam further adds,”At Faridabad centre, we taught students of class 4th & 5th , how to find the missing numbers from the added ones.
Our students of class 8 prepared for their exam of Sanskrit. Students of class 9 were taught how to make an equation with sum and products of roots. Also we taught word problems, mixed fractions. We enjoy teaching these kids as its challenging for us too. We all try to give our best. At the end, we had an interactive session about the IPL and GK too.”

Mr Saurabh. Volunteer (Coordinator-Munirka-Nizamuddin) shares,”Last time, again we started our session with whole hearted enthusiasm. At munirika slum, jyoti taught alphabets and numbers to kids while akash taught maths to the kids..At nizamuddin, we had shortage of kids as most of them had gone to their hometown while some of them had gone to the hostel. Still, we continued our session with the kids who were waiting for us . Jyoti taught maths and science while akash taught alphabet and numbers to kids. Also, small game session was conducted with the kids due to huge demand from kids.
At tuqlakabad, jyoti taught science and social science to the students of class 6&8 at other volunteers taught maths and English to the kids…”
